Primary Intent

Our aim is that every student will leave our school healthy.

At Ark Globe Academy Primary we use the Rising Stars Champions PE scheme. High-quality sports education inspires all students to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. Our PE curriculum builds from the early development of gross motor skills; it then focuses on teaching skills required for a range of sports and then provides opportunity for students to apply their skills in competitive games.
The aim of our Fitness lessons is to ensure that students receive regular exercise activity. Lessons are designed to raise the heart rate and improve overall fitness, stamina and flexibility.

Sport

High-quality sports education inspires all students to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. This curriculum builds from the early development of gross motor skills; it then focuses on teaching skills required for a range of sports and then provides opportunity for students to apply their skills in competitive games.

Fitness

The aim of the fitness programme is to ensure that students receive regular exercise activity. Lessons are designed to raise the heart rate and improve overall fitness, stamina and flexibility. Levels of individual fitness will be reviewed termly and shared with parents.

Flexibility
Children become more agile when they can stretch and move their bodies in a full range of motion. Encouraging children to begin stretching in childhood can help them maintain limber physiques throughout life. Options include gymnastics, yoga, dance, tai-chi and martial arts.

Strength and stamina
Strength exercises can help children build healthy muscles. With an appropriately organised programme, children can advance their strength and stamina. Due to the age of students and risk of injury during growth spurts no weights will be used during strength classes; most workouts will focus on non-resistance training and developing stamina. Exercise include; lunges, dips, press-ups, skipping and sit-ups.

Aerobic exercise
Cardiovascular training is an important component of children’s fitness, keeping their heart and lungs strong. Classes may include: Fitness and dance; workouts and routines and gym style fitness sessions

Circuit training
Children can apply their strength and stamina and develop greater levels of fitness through circuit training. Circuit training combines aerobic exercise, strength, stamina and flexibility.

Secondary Intent

Our Physical Education curriculum prepares our students for university and to be leaders in their community by:

  1. Enabling students to experience challenge, sportsmanship and fair play through a range of competitive opportunities
  2. Building positive relationships through teamwork and problem solving
  3. Acquiring new skills and knowledge through the use of a growth mind-set

So that students have the tools to deal with physical and mental challenges and see the importance of an active lifestyle.
