Inspiring Futures at the National Apprenticeship Show

As part of our Apprenticeship Week activities, 40 of our Year 10 students attended the National Apprenticeship Show at Sandown Park Racecourse.

The event included over 80 exhibitors, including top universities, leading tech companies, finance and law firms, and public sector employers such as the Metropolitan Police and the British Army.

The day provided a platform for our students to interact with professionals from a diverse range of industries, ask questions about career pathways, and explore career opportunities. From hands-on experiences to eye-opening conversations, the event helped our students gain a clearer understanding of their next steps after Year 11.

Student Reflections

The impact of the event was best captured by our students themselves:

"My first stop was to the Metropolitan Police stand. I met serving officers and found out what you have to do to become a police officer and how long it takes. We learnt about the different roles within the police force, from patrol officers to detectives, and the various skills and qualities required to succeed in these positions. It was fascinating to hear about the training and preparation that officers do to respond to emergency situations and keep our communities safe. I then went to the army stand and found out information about what types of jobs are available in the army. I was also able to try one of the driving experience simulators and test my driving skills."

"I spoke to the Royal Mail mechanic, I found out that they have plenty of jobs not only delivering mail. I also sat in one of their vans. I enjoyed it, and I think the royal mail worker give me the best impression because this is something that I am now seriously considering."

- Year 10 student, Nickel

"Some of the exhibitors were the University of Greenwich, Pfizer, UK Power Networks and BMW. I spoke to one of the army officers, he spoke a lot about what he did and the places he has travelled around the world.

I also went to the Bakkavor stand.  I didn’t know anything about them before I went.  They are a food company that make and sell freshly prepared food. This trip made me start me think about my future and the career I want to do."

- Year 10 student, Tianna

By the end of the event, students left with a renewed sense of ambition and a clearer idea of the opportunities available to them beyond school.
