Secondary Intent

Our Drama curriculum prepares our students for university and to be leaders in their community by:

  1. Enabling students to find and subsequently express their views with confidence
  2. Providing opportunities for students to work within a group dynamic
  3. Providing students with the ability to critique and assess others

So that students can develop an awareness and opinion of the world around them and confidently be their authentic selves.

Year 7

Matilda – Introduction to Drama. Building in key skills such as group work, vocal/physical skills. Students complete weekly written evaluations based on their groups performance from previous lesson.

Physical Theatre – Developing physical skills and team work. Students complete weekly written evaluations based on their groups performance from previous lesson.

Helping Max – Explores themes of bullying and develops vocal skills. Students complete weekly written evaluations based on their groups performance from previous lesson. Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations – Script work. Building on skills from previous schemes of learning and developing confidence and ability to perform in front of peers. Students complete weekly written evaluations based on their groups performance from previous lesson.

Hidden Homeless – Explores social issues of rough sleepers. Develops acting skills. Students complete weekly written evaluations based on their groups performance from previous lesson. Devising – Similar to GCSE requirements. Students required to create performances in groups based on stimuli. Students complete weekly written evaluations based on their groups performance from previous lesson.

Genre – Explores different genres of theatre and provides historical context. Develops acting skills. Students give verbal feedback on performances they watch in each lesson.

Let Him Have It – Explores Capital Punishment as key theme. Students are required to complete a monologue which develops their confidence and acting skills. Students give verbal feedback on performances they watch in each lesson.

Titanic – Explores issues with Class and provides historical context. Students are working in groups and developing their acting skills. Students give verbal feedback on performances they watch in each lesson. Practitioners – Students are exploring different styles of theatre and teachings from well known practitioners. Group work and development of acting skills throughout. Students give verbal feedback on performances they watch in each lesson.

Practitioners - Students are exploring different styles of theatre and teachings from well known practitioners. Group work and development of acting skills throughout. Students give verbal feedback on performances they watch in each lesson.

Brecht – Students exploring Bertlolt Brecht’s Epic Theatre. Students will be using Brechtian theatre and techniques in their final GCSE Devised performance in Year 10. Students give verbal feedback on performances they watch in each lesson.

Script Work – Students will be completing script work using the AQA GCSE Drama Component 3 mark scheme to prepare for GCSEs. Students give verbal feedback on performances they watch in each lesson. Physical Theatre (Frantic Assembly). Developing physical skills which focuses on using the body to create a narrative and team work. Students give verbal feedback on performances they watch in each lesson.

Devising (Mock) – students will be recapping styles of theatre from well known practitioners and using these techniques to create performance from a wide range of stimuli. Students peer assess performances each lesson.

Blood Brothers – Students will be practically exploring Blood Brothers as Set Text and answering questions from GCSE paper (12mark question). Students peer assess written work frequently.

Script Work – Students will be completing script work using the AQA GCSE Drama Component 3 mark scheme to prepare for GCSEs. Students peer assess performances each lesson.

Devising – Performance. Students will be preparing for 40% of their GCSE by creating a performance from a wide range of stimuli. Students peer assess performances each lesson. Devising Coursework. Students will be completing their coursework which documents the Devised Performance process and final piece. Students peer assess performances each lesson.

Year 11

Component 3 and Component 1 – Students will be preparing for their Component 3 (script work) exam as well as preparing for Component 1 (written exam). For Component 1, students will be focussing on Section B of the exam (Blood Brothers) which requires students to describe and explain acting skills they would use from a key character in Blood Brothers. Students peer assess performances and written work weekly. Component 3 and Component 1 – Students will be preparing for their Component 3 (script work) exam as well as preparing for Component 1 (written exam). For Component 1, students will be focussing on the Live Theatre Review (32 mark question) which requires students to critique, analyse and evaluate a performance they have seen in theatre. Students peer assess performances and written work weekly.
