To safeguard young people under the age of 18 and for the work experience placement to commence, we are required to ensure the employer:
- has policies and procedures in place to protect children from harm and can provide a copy to the school- example Example of a safeguarding policy statement (nspcc.org.uk)
- has a risk assessment for young people in the workplace if the employer has a workforce over 5 people - link to advise Young people at work - work experience - HSE
- agrees to the work experience agreement if the employer has a workforce under 5 people as not required to have a risk assessment – (see form below)
- If the work experience placement, due to its nature would be on a 1-2-1 basis, such as trade work, then the employer will need to agree to have an enhanced DBS check against the child barred list which will be offered by the school.
