Sixth Formers learning journalism from professionals
Some of our Sixth Form students took part in a 5 week enrichment activity, which has been designed to teach them the basics of journalism. The workshop invited one professional from a different journalistic practice each week to talk about their experiences and to give students insights.
The workshop has covered topics like the introduction of different types of journalism, news writing, local versus national and international news, interview techniques, ethical aspects…
Daen Palma Huse, the editor of the Protagonist Magazine talked about putting a magazine together. Aylin Yazan, multimedia journalist from BBC World Service, shared her experiences in the BBC but also working for international media such as CNN Turk and Al Jazeera. Owen Sheppard, a reporter for the Evening Standard, focused on journalism education and writing news for a local audience.
The students have published their first Sixth Form newspaper already! The next issue is now being prepared, exploring very timely topics with high quality journalistic content.
