Sixth Form Enrichment Activities
Thursday 09 March 2017
Our Sixth Form organises regular enrichment activities either in the Academy or as site visits. These activities increase students’ knowledge of a wide range of career paths and opportunities after they leave school. We invite people from different backgrounds, working in a variety of professional fields to come and speak to our students. One of the latest guest speakers was Barry Matthews, who came for a Careers Talk. He is the lawyer of ITV television channel and spoke to our students about different pathways within law, his daily responsibilities and the challenges of working for a television channel. He also mentioned internship opportunities in his company, which was met with great interest by our Sixth Formers.
Another event was a talk about apprenticeships, which hosted two alumni of Ark Globe Academy and White Hat, a company that is dedicated to matching the right students with the right businesses. White Hat gave a presentation to our Sixth Formers regarding apprenticeship opportunities as well as tips about how to present themselves better to businesses, and how to choose the right job for themselves. They emphasised the importance of networking while learning the job. Tyrique, a Globe alumnus, also presented his experiences as an apprentice at Ark Globe Academy. He talked about his biggest achievements, and how he passed Level 2 in Business Administration.
It was also great to listen to Globe alumna Shahena’s success story. Shahena was headhunted by NatWest after her apprenticeship period in Deloitte. She gave a splendid presentation to our Sixth Formers about how she adapted herself to a business working environment and what she learned from her apprenticeship.
