Tuesday 07 May 2013

Pupils at Globe Academy Primary School, Tronador, were inspired by Olympic medal winning gymnast and Strictly Come Dancing winner, Louis Smith today. On arrival, the pupils had the opportunity to give Louis a few lessons in hula hooping which included one pupil dancing at the same time as spinning a hula hoop around his arm. Louis then had the opportunity to show off some of his gymnastic skills and to inspire the pupils by giving a speech on how he became an Olympic medal winner. He then had a tour of the school and visited each of the classes where pupils had the chance to ask him questions and teach him some Maths.

Ramarnee Bakas Sithole, Year 6 pupil, said: “I was very nervous about meeting Louis as I’ve never met a famous person before but it was very inspiring. I now know that in order to succeed you have to persevere”.

Sandra White, Head Teacher said; “It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to hear from someone who has worked hard to reach the peak of his career. I was very proud when he commented on how well our pupils behaved”.
