Best GCSE results in our academy's history
Wednesday 30 August 2017
We celebrated our students’ outstanding GCSE results as this year’s results represent the best in our academy’s history!
The number of pupils achieving the new benchmark score of 4 or better on English and Maths GCSEs (equivalent to a C) has risen from last year as has the percentage of students achieving the equivalent of the old measure of 5 A* to Cs (including English and Maths).
The headline figures illustrate another year of success at our academy. The academy also did extremely well in the recently introduced Progress 8 measure, with its result being significantly above the national average and this illustrates the progress its students have made during their time at Ark Globe since leaving primary school. The academy’s Attainment 8 score has once again improved markedly, and is likely to be above the national average.
We are also immensely proud of the large increase in the number of students passing the ‘EBacc’ – a group of academic subjects that are valued by top universities and employers.
Deborah achieved two 9s in English Literature and English Language, an 8 in Maths along with four A*s (two in Sciences, Geography and Media Studies), two As, a B and a Distinction in Business Studies.
She said: “I’m feeling happy and excited. It was quite stressful, knowing that I had so many exams to do and the exams would get harder. I motivated myself and had help from all of the teachers.
I feel like Globe is a very comforting place. Even though I came in year 9, I felt everyone at Globe was a big family. It was so nice to be in a comfortable place where everyone is friends, everyone loves each other. I think that’s motivating as well. It makes you want to be better and make everyone around you proud.”
Deborah would like to study Civil Engineering and her target is Oxbridge.
Our Head Girl Memunat achieved a 9 in English Literature, an 8 in Maths and a 7 in English Language as well as two A*s (in Computer Science and History), three As, two Bs and a Distinction.
Her teachers commented that Memunat has been an important part of her year group throughout her Globe journey, and her independent attitude and drive to achieve has culminated in her impressive results.
Memunat said: “I am very very happy, relieved, thankful and grateful. My family is really proud of my results, they are also excited.
I’m so grateful that my hard work paid off. I would like to thank to Ms Sikuade for bringing such positive environment to Maths, giving us support and hope, making us believe that we can get those top grades without doubting us for one minute even though Maths GCSE was so incredibly hard. She made us believe that we could achieve whatever a private school student could achieve.”
Our Head Boy Eduard achieved a 9 in English Literature, 8s in English Language and Maths, three A*s (Science, Geography and French), two As and two Bs.
Eduard said: “I wasn’t expecting to get this high grades. I am very happy!
I am grateful to my teachers at Ark Globe Academy. Every single day we had a small revision session. It wasn’t just a revision session or a revision group. We used to stay until 7 or 8 pm. We didn’t want to go home; rather we stayed here and combined the revision with others. It was very helpful.
I moved here just over three years ago from Romania. Teaching style is very different in the UK. I had lots of enrichment opportunities at Ark Globe. I didn’t even think I’d ever go to Cambridge to study but also just to visit it. I found out that everyone can go to a top Russel Group university. My horizons expended so much at Globe. There isn’t one job that I can do; there are thousands of jobs, thousands of programmes and everyone can apply for these, but it’s all down to having the right mindset.”
Zoish achieved two 8s in English Language and Literature, a 7 in Maths, five As, two Bs and a Distinction.
She said: “I couldn’t even imagine how today would end up. I’m so happy and really proud of myself, because I worked very hard.
My teachers were very inspiring and brought fun to the classroom. That’s why the subjects I did well in I always felt like my lessons were very good, my teachers were very helpful. Globe’s whole ethos was guiding me as well. When you’re doing your GCSEs, you actually need to apply yourself. There are days that you want to just give up, it’s just so frustrating, but you know in the back of your mind that you need to keep that growth mindset in order to succeed.”
Our Principal, Matt Jones, said: “GCSE results day indicates another great year for Ark Globe Academy. Students have performed exceptionally well and helped to achieve the best set of GCSE results the school has ever had. It’s great to see so many of our students excelling in their subjects. These excellent results have set them up for their further studies. Huge thank you to the staff and students for their hard work and making it possible.”
