This year, they have set themselves the ambitious goal of raising £4,000, which will go directly towards providing additional resources, activities and experiences that enrich learning across the Academy. They have already raised just over £1,000, and are continuing to gather support as Marathon Day approaches.
Running for Our Students
Both teachers are well into their training programmes, with long runs now surpassing half‑marathon distance. Alongside their full‑time teaching commitments, they have dedicated significant time and energy to preparing for one of the world’s most demanding endurance events.
Speaking about their motivation, they shared:
“The reason for doing it is simple. Every day at Ark Globe we see the resilience, ambition and determination of the students. Many achieve incredible outcomes while navigating challenges outside of school, and it’s a constant reminder of how powerful the right support and opportunities can be.”
Their marathon challenge is not only a personal milestone, but also a way of giving back to the community they serve:
“Ark Globe isn’t just a school — it’s a community. We are proud to run to raise money for the school and support the work all our colleagues do to help our students realise their ambitions.”
Supporting the Ark Globe Community
Through their fundraising efforts, both teachers aim to highlight the importance of enrichment, pastoral support and broadened opportunities for every young person at Ark Globe. Their £4,000 target will help ensure that students continue to benefit from experiences that nurture both personal development and academic growth.
How You Can Support
We are incredibly proud of Mr Whelen and Mr Owen for championing our school community in this way. If you are able to support their fundraising, any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference.
