ARK Globe Academy marks Remembrance Day

ARK Globe Academy students and staff participated in a very special Remembrance ceremony to mark the centenary of the First World War. We captured the commemoration in photographs.
The ‘Globe Remembers’ Commemoration began by the ringing of the school bell at 11am.
The end of the two minutes silence was marked by Renee from Year 8 beautifully playing 'The Last Post’.
This was followed by a poignant speech by Principal, Matt Jones on the ‘Pity of War’. He said: “Today is our moment to reflect on the sacrifice that people have made around the world and throughout history.”
The poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ was then read out by Head Girl, Zareen Roy-Macauley and Head Boy, Adeseye Ogunneye.
Students laid wreaths to represent each of the countries that participated in the First World War.
The Remembrance ceremony concluded with our student representatives releasing red balloons into the sky to commemorate people who died from each of the countries that participated in the First World War.
In the lead up to the commemoration our students have participated in many remembrance activities including a poppy art exhibition and looking into the role of science in the First World War.
Matt Jones, Principal, said: “Ark Globe Academy students fully honoured and respected the memories of our fallen soldiers with thoughtful reflection and exemplary behaviour.”
