Outstanding primary results for SATs
Exam results for eleven year olds released this week show marked improvements for our primary school. The number of pupils getting a combined ‘level 4’ in reading, writing and maths combined has improved from 88% last year to 91% this year.
‘Level 4’ is the expected level that pupils at the end of primary school should meet, and our pupils have likely exceeded the national average, which was 74% in 2014, the most recent year for which data is available.
Sam Colburn, Headteacher of Primary said: “We’re delighted with this year’s results, which show that the hard work we’ve been putting in is starting to pay off. Our pupils and teachers have really gone the extra mile to get these results. I’d like to thank the whole school community, including all the staff and parents for their support this year.”
Having become part of the high performing Ark academy network in 2008, we spend more time teaching subjects such as English and maths to ensure that all pupils are ready for secondary school and can access a broad curriculum.
Matt Jones, Principal, said: “Our key stage 2 results at Ark Globe Academy are a reflection of the hard working and committed staff, alongside motivated students and supportive parents. These results provide further evidence that our primary school continues to provide an outstanding education for our children and the wider community.”
We have also been using the pioneering ‘Mathematics Mastery’ programme, a teaching framework and curriculum that helps teachers deliver outstanding maths lessons. Pupils spend more time on fewer subjects to gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. On average pupils are a month ahead of their peers after a year of using the Maths Mastery programme.
Phonics results were also outstanding again at the school with 100% of pupils passing the year 1 phonics check for the second year running. This is compared to a national average of just 74% in 2014. The school uses the Ruth Miskin phonics programme in order to ensure early literacy and the founding blocks of reading and writing. On hearing about our billiant results Ruth Miskin said: ‘Every child learns to read at Ark Globe’
